Why we must put pressure on our government;
Palestinians have been living under violent Israeli occupation for 77 years, long before Hamas’s attack on October 7th, 2023. They have been subject to unbelievable violence, oppression, genocide, and ethnic cleansing under this regime—with the assistance of the US. The most recent Israeli attacks on Gaza have been the most violent. The US can stop all of this.
How? The US not only funds this war but also funds Israel’s military yearly. Without the billions of dollars in aid that the US provides, Israel wouldn’t have the capacity to occupy land so violently, nor would it be able to slaughter innocent civilians by the thousands.
How much aid do we provide? From 1950 onwards, the US has supplied 80% of Israel’s weapon imports and has given them nearly blank checks annually for their military defense spending → roughly $3.3 billion/year. An additional $14.3 billion in funds was recently approved (11.02.23).
On 08.13.24, the USA announced it would be giving Israel an additional $3.5 billion for weapons.
Update - Most recently, on 09.26.24, the USA announced an additional $8.7 billion aid package for Israel—$3.5 billion for ‘essential wartime procurement’ and $5.2 billion for the Iron Dome.
